Chemical Film (Chromate Conversion Coating)

Chemical film, also known as chromate conversion coating or by the trade name Alodine®, is a chemical treatment applied to aluminum and aluminum alloys. The process produces a thin, adherent coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance while maintaining the electrical conductivity of the base metal — a critical requirement for many aerospace and defense assemblies.

Electron Plating III applies Type 1 and Type 3 coatings in Class 1A (general corrosion protection) and Class 3 (low electrical resistance) per MIL-DTL-5541. Class 3 coatings are specified where electrical bonding and grounding continuity must be maintained across the treated surface. Our processing tanks accommodate parts up to 12 feet in length.

Chemical film is also widely used as a pre-treatment prior to painting or bonding. The coating provides an excellent adhesion surface for primers and topcoats, improving the overall durability of the paint system. Parts can be processed in rack or barrel configurations depending on geometry and quantity.
